Rockstar Recruiter — Molly Waltner of Dell Technologies

RippleMatch is proud to recognize Molly Waltner, University Relations Recruiter at Dell Technologies, as a Rockstar Recruiter in the Campus Recruiting Community!

Molly began her career in recruiting at a start-up, and loved “the culture, creativity, and adaptability” of working at a younger company. When she began looking for her next career opportunity, Molly was hoping to join an organization that had the stability and structure of a larger corporation, yet still had the excitement, drive, and “all hands on deck” feel of a start-up. Molly says she was fortunate to have found the perfect fit in the Emerging Talent Team at Dell Technologies!

“Talent Acquisition is usually an individual job, but I have the privilege of recruiting with four incredible team members for the NextGen Sales Academy at Dell Technologies,” Molly told RippleMatch. “They are driven, strategic, empathetic, funny, creative … too many great characteristics to list. They inspire and motivate me to bring my best self to work every day.”

RP: What are some of the challenges you've faced in the industry, and how have you overcome them?

MW: Where to begin?! Specifically, looking at the past few years, the talent market has seen huge swings. We saw companies doing layoffs and offer resignations, then within a matter of months it was a candidate driven market. I think recruiters always have to be ready to react and adapt to the business needs and job market shifts.

RP: What has been your proudest professional accomplishment to date?

MW: Funny enough, my proudest professional accomplishment actually isn't recruiting related. In my previous role, I led the volunteer initiative for the entire company. Every October, the company encouraged all employees to serve the global community through education-focused service projects. During my time leading the initiative, we had 90% participation across the company. I loved having the opportunity to take on a project I was extremely passionate about, on top of my day-to-day recruiting work.

RP: What are your current professional goals?

MW: One thing I love about working at Dell and my relationship with my manager is that we are always in constant communication about what is next, and what skills I need to develop to get to that next step. Currently, I am working on leading trainings for new recruiters on the team and getting involved in more strategic conversations for Emerging Talent as a whole to develop my leadership skills for a future in management.

RP: What advice would you give to someone newer to the talent acquisition space?

MW: My advice for someone newer to the talent acquisition space is to always focus on relationship development. Make a connection with every candidate you interact with. The role you're currently hiring for might not be a fit for them, but your next opening may be! Also, build a strong relationship with your stakeholders and hiring managers. They will prioritize recruiting and value your work if you put in the time to become a true partner with them!
