RippleMatch Passes Bias Audit Unanimously
Unconscious bias during the hiring process is a real threat to building a more diverse and inclusive workforce. That’s because unchecked biases in both human and technology-assisted decision-making can disproportionately hurt underrepresented groups. In an effort to help employers combat bias in hiring, we are committed to ensuring our products limit both human and algorithmic bias to the greatest extent possible.
To do so, we partner with a third party bias auditor babl.ai to review our technology and internal processes — and to ensure that our platform complies with legislation that regulates the use of AI in hiring for companies looking to hire candidates who are residents of New York City, which will take effect this April.
In our most recent audit, the auditors used data from more than 170,000 applications to investigate whether candidates experienced disparate impact based on race and gender — and we passed unanimously and with no exceptions. In fact, the finalized report, published January 5, 2023, concludes that we actively and honestly look for the risk of bias on our platform, and that we have systems and processes in place to measure and mitigate bias risk for candidates on the platform.
Remarking on how forward, compliant, and eager to mitigate bias risk the auditors noted, “The requirements of our audit go significantly beyond what is required by the NYC law; RippleMatch chose to hold themselves to a higher standard.”
The talent acquisition space is no stranger to bias — and when it goes unchecked, it can hinder our mission of helping employers build high-performing, diverse teams. That’s why we’ll always be working toward creating a more equitable experience for candidates, and in turn, help our partners to connect with and hire great candidates of all backgrounds.
